Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), chairman of the Senate's green jobs
subcommittee introduced legislation with nine cosponsors to encourage the installation of 10 million solar systems
on the rooftops of homes and businesses over the next decade.
Sanders said a recent report shows that solar power could help
make every state more energy independent if solar units were installed on available rooftop space, because every
state can meet 10 percent or more of its electricity needs just through rooftop solar.
Sanders' bill, the 10 Million Solar Roofs and 10 Million
Gallons of Solar Water Heating Act of 2010, would authorize rebates which, along with other incentives, would cover
up to half the cost of the 10 million solar power systems and 200,000 water heating systems. Non-profit groups and
state and local governments also would be eligible More.....
Energy Costs
As the cost of coventional forms of energy continue to increase
more and more people are looking to alternative methods of power for their home energy needs. The use of solar
energy and wind power are ways in which many families can become less reliant on the major energy
suppliers.
As with all relatively new innovations unless your lucky enough
to be able to get a goverment grant the cost can still be quite high. The alternative as a lot of people have found
out, is to look at the diy option. There are a number of good green energy packages available, that can enable the
majority of people to build their own solar and wind power generating systems with relatively little
fuss.
As time passes the prices of professional installations will
ineviatably fall, but in the meantime it looks as though we will have to live with the high price of gas and
electricity.
